Tango Argentino

Colores del Tango is a unique tango show full of passion, emotion and artistic beauty. Experience the presentation of tango argentino as you have never seen before in the dance of Johanna Kulik, Josip Bartulovic and Santiago Maciel.

This is the show you do not want to miss, and the show you want to share with your spouse, friend or (would-be) dance partner.

The music is provided by Beltango, a world-renowned tango orchestra. Their presentation of tango music is very unique, and aside of playing classical tango music, they also play their own compositions that are

Angelina Jolie in Budapest!

[[UNHCR]]

Angelina Jolie was on a location scout in Budapest for her upcoming directorial debut on a Bosnian film about a Serbian soldier and a Bosnian woman who meet on the eve of the 1992-95 Bosnian war.

The shooting of the film starts in November 2010, her inspiration to shoot the story came after her visit to refugee camps in Bosnia. I wonder if she would choose the 8th district as one of her location :)

Hidden gem | Józsefváros

This is part of Budapest. No one would expect such beauty can be discovered in this courtyard. Z&Z found out through Gyuri, founder of Budapest Beyond Sightseeing tour and indeed there are lots of photo opportunities besides its history, culture and heritage.

Amongst the 23 districts, this district offers the cheapest priced apartments near the downtown. Some are often neglected residential buildings with nice interiors. Józsefváros can be divided into three parts, the borders being Grand Boulevard (Nagykörút) and the roads Fiumei út and Orczy út.

Jewish Summer Festival in Budapest

The Jewish Summer Festival is one of Hungary’s most important, most visited and most interesting cultural art events. Even strata of the population usually less interested all year round in cultural events are drawn to this event held on the last week of summer. Visitors may gain a glimpse into a culture which they are not really familiar with and can take part in it. They can get to know the traditions and holidays of a several thousand-year-old culture, and in addition see artists and performers who will offer them a once in a lifetime experience.

The Jewish Tourism and Cultural Center held the first festival in 1998 thanks to the initiation of the Budapest Jewish Community, with Europe`s largest and definitely one of the most spectacular Synagogues as its central location. The Dohány Street Synagogue itself was built between 1855 and 1859 according to plans of Frigyess Fessl and Ludwig Förster.

Locations:

Dohány Street Synagogue
The Dohány Street Synagogue in Budapest is currently the second largest in the world and together with the synagogue in Amsterdam, the most monumental one in Europe. Its greatness is a proof of Judaism’s significance, its high-standard economical and cultural pretense in the capital of that period.

Hungarian Jewish Museum
The task of the Hungarian Jewish Museum is to preserve the past of Hungarian Jewry, settlers of old of the region, and the collection, systemization and introduction of its historical, religious and cultural memorials.

Rumbach Street Synagogue
The Rumbach Sebestyén Street Synagogue finally reopened after almost fifty years. True, the temple does not yet host religious events, only visits are aloud.

Uránia Movie Theater
The Uránia National Film Theatre was built in 1893 under Rákóczi út 21, earlier called Kerepesi út. The Venetian-gothic and eastern arabesque palace was designed by Henrik Schmahl on the request of Kálmán Rimanóczy from Oradea. The aim was to build a concert and dance hall in the ornamented palace that originally intended to be an Orpheum. It was finally the Oroszy Caprice and the Alhambra club that opened their doors in the edifice.

The detailed programs you can find on the official website of the Jewish Summer Festival.

Fireworks Display on 20 August 2010 | Budapest Tuzijáték

The 18-minute fireworks display was launched from three ships floating on the Danube rather than from the Gellért Hill. Though shorter this year, it was meant to be more economical than in previous years. Part of the budget allocated for the annual August 20 celebration was polled by 60% of Hungarians who preferred it to be spent more wisely on charity purposes such as helping needy citizens and help impoverished tax-paying Hungarians. Besides, flood victims from the northeastern city of Miskolc, badly needed this money for repairing and rebuilding their destroyed homes due to the heavy gales, rain and flooding. It was good that the Facebook group “Let’s forego the fireworks on 20 August in favour of the flood victims” actuated it to a modest and scaled down celebration. This way Hungary could constructively use the money so as to help the flood victims. That's the spirit of solidarity!

Sziget Festival, 11-16 AUGUST 2010, ÓBUDAI ISLAND

11-16 AUGUST 2010, ÓBUDAI ISLAND

Of course....once again
Sziget Festival is now ON in Budapest on the Óbudai Island!

Nokia

Sziget Festival is one of the largest annual events happening in Europe. For this one, it is happening in Budapest every year for five days on the island called 'Obudai'. Some called this island 'Hajógyári Sziget' of which the word 'Hajógyári' means 'Shipyard'.

Augusztus 14, Sziget 2008

Party goers are usually campers meaning they buy camping tickets that allows them to camp on the island for the whole duration of this festival. They are entitled to all the stages, be it for cultural performances or musical 'live' bands. It is quite funny to see the mini village which is there every year.

Girls, girls, girls!

Guys, guys, guys!

I remembered the first time seeing the practical stores/stalls they have such as bank, post office, grocery store and a marriage centre where couples who met on the island or 'planning to get married' can officiate their marriage :)

Of course, it is for PURE fun!

Szentendre

Szentendre

Szentendre has been the home of many generations of Hungarian artists since early 20th century. The museums and contemporary galleries all represents the rich traditions of the visual art.

It is a riverside town in Pest county, Hungary, near Budapest. It is known for its museums (most notably the Open-Air Ethnographic Museum), galleries, and artists. Besides the fact that it is easy to access, by HEV rail or by river boats or by car, many tourists from Budapest like to visit there at the same time shop for unique souvenirs or have a hearty meal at the restaurants in its picturesque environment.

Budapest ports, ships, boats

Walking along the river Danube in Budapest especially during the evening you will see a lot of ships and boats being on sightseeing. The Budapest lights are beautiful during the evening having all the bridges and the surrounding buildings lighted.
