Medicinal services are available at the Gellért Baths for treating practically any complaint. A day-time hospital and inhalatorium operate in the institute, which provide all-round medicinal treatment.

The spa water is effective in the treatment of degenerative disorders of joints and the spine, chronic and subacute arthritic complaints, disorders of the vertebral disks, neuralgia, aortic stenosis, and impeded circulation. The inhalation therapy section treats patients with asthmatic and chronic bronchitic complaints.

The water erupts from springs inside Gellért Hill. It is sulphurous thermal water that contains sodium and is rich in calcium-magnesium-hydrocarbonates; it has a significant fluoride content. source: http://hungarystartshere.com/Gellert-Spa-Lido-and-Swimming-Pool-Gellert-Gyogyfurdo

Gellért Baths

Gellert Baths, originally uploaded by citycrab.

One of the thermal baths at the Gellert. In the back are the separate entrances to the men's and women's thermal baths. Where the clothing is optional. There I saw all of the things that can happen to the female body as it ages...

Gellért Thermal Baths and Swimming Pool, also called Gellért fürdő or Gellért Baths, is one of the most beautiful and elegant baths in Budapest, built between 1912 and 1918 in the (Secession) Art Nouveau style. They were damaged during Worl War II, but then rebuilt. References to healing waters in this location are found from as early as the 13th century. A hospital was located on this site during the Middle Ages. During the reign of the Ottoman Empire Ottoman Empire, baths were also built on this particular site.

i know we have a tendency towards toplessness, but i swear in this picture we aren't. i mean, moments before we had been lounging around stark naked with a bunch of giant old hungarian women in saunas and thermal pools of various temperatures, but here we are swathed in the big white sheets that they wrap you up with instead of towels. (sgoralnick)

The Gellért Baths complex includes thermal baths, which are small pools containing water from Gellért hill’s mineral hot springs. The water contains calcium, magnesium, hydrocarbonate, alkalis, chloride, sulfate, and fluoride. There are two different thermal baths, according to the signs on the walls of the baths, one is around 36°C and the other around 38°C. The thermal baths are decorated beautifully with mosaic tiles. The complex also includes saunas and plunge pools (segregated by gender), an open-air swimming pool which can create artificial waves every ten minutes and an effervescent swimming pool. Masseuse services are available. Different types of massage are available. Tourists may experience some culture shock when they purchase a regular half hour massage and are escorted into a room with 3 massage beds and are asked to remove all their clothing. The massages given are completely nude, with 3 massages going on in the same room at once. It truly is a cultural experience. Gellért Baths also offer a wide range of medical services, but they must be booked ahead of time. (wikipedia)
